The ICC's Cricket Committee - Management (CC-M) has decided to continue with its two-stage process of dealing with bowlers with suspect actions. The Cricket Committee - Playing (CC-P) had earlier recommended that the errant bowlers be asked straightaway to work with an ICC panel, instead of first working with their home boards, as is now the case. Malcolm Speed, the ICC's chief executive, however, stated that there would be no change in the format.
"The committee has looked at it at length; it is a very complex issue, made more complex by the advent of sports science, and the fact that we now have very high-quality slow-motion replays of bowlers' actions. The committee thinks that the game is better served by staying with the two-stage process, but we will continue to review it, and we have asked the players' committee to look at it again when it meets next year.
"We have also asked of the boards - and they have agreed - that they will adopt similar policies for dealing with illegal actions within their boards, and will try to get to players with suspect actions as early as possible, so they can be cured, and take their places in the game."
